FNB Maties scored five tries in their 37-10 win against FNB Wits at the Danie Craven Stadium to end Wits' unbeaten streak in the 2022 Varsity Cup and even more important denied Wits any bonus points.
The match started with both sides scoring a try each. Wits' ill discipline gave Nevaldo Fleurs the opportunity to stretch Maties' lead to 18-05 with two successive penalties late in the first half. The hosts led 18-5 at half-time.
Wits opened the scoring in the second half when winger Thando Ngcelwane scored a great try. Maties scored two tries during the last ten minutes of the match to secure a bonus point win.
