Lions CEO Rudolf Straeuli revealed that former Springbok coach Jaque Fourie has renewed his contract as the defence coach for another two years.
Straeuli confirmed that negotiations with head coach Ivan van Rooyen, Ricardo Laubscher (backline, attack and skills), Julian Redelinghuys (scrum) and Albert van den Berg (forwards and line-out) are ongoing.
However, he said that they are in the process of negotiations with all of their coaches. “It is an ongoing process,” Straeuli said.
“Firstly, there is a budget, we have to work within our means. And this is a confidential system, so I will not get involved in rumour-mongering."
“It is an ongoing process and as soon as a contract has been extended, it will be announced. It is wrong to single out one person."
Addressing the speculation around Van Rooyen’s position Straeuli said they have faith in a man that has been in the union’s structures for more than a decade.
“We grew him as a young coach and he's been doing well for us in growing the players that we wanted,”
"As I said, every coach on his own merit has to follow KPIs and we are in a process of that. So he still has a contract till later this year. I do not want to speak about individuals."
