Evan Roos is the pick of the South African URC players with the release of statistics after the first block of URC matches was played. Roos "burst" onto the South African scene after transferring from the Cell C Sharks to DHL Stormers. Roos' combined stats make him the 6th "best" player in the United Rugby Championship.
Taking into account that DHL Stormers and the other South African teams played one game less than the other URC teams makes Roos' stats even more impressive. His performances made him one of the favourites to be included in the Springbok squad for the past Internationals during October and November 2021, however ......
Roos sits second behind Hansen for defenders beaten (20) with teammate Warrick Gelant sitting on the 5th position with 18 defenders beaten.
Roos is joint-third for carries (57) with Jamie Ritchie behind Jack Dempsey (64) and Viliame Mata (62).
Roos' 240 metres gained placed him 12th overall.
Other South African players on the "leader board".
Vodacom Bulls Marcell leads the number of offloads with 11 with Warrick Gelant with 10 offloads joint second with Monty Ioane and JJack Dempsey.
Willie Engelbrecht made the most tackles (66) with Marcell Coetzee sitting 2nd with 64 tackles made.
Bismarck du Plessis has made 6 turnovers placing him joint 4th with Will Boyde on 10 turnovers the competition leader.
Boeta Chamberlain's 3 drop goals placed him 3rd in this category.
Salmaan Moerat's 2 yellow cards make him the joint "leader" with Seb Davies and James Hume.
