With the help of Owen Farrell's boot, an incredibly disciplined England reserved their place in the second semi-final on Saturday at 19:00 against either the Springboks or France, with a 30-24 win at Stade de Marseille on Sunday 15 October.
Fiji was the dominant side for the first 10 minutes of the match, however, Owen Farrell converted a penalty to open their account on the scoreboard. England led 03-00 after 10 minutes of play.
Three minutes later Manu Tuilagi scored England's first try to extend England's lead to 08-00. A dominant England maul was the source for the great attacking ball spread to Tuilagi.
Fiji's scrumhalf Frank Lomani converted a penalty to reduce England's lead to 08-03 after 20 minutes of play in the first half.
Two minutes later, Joe Marchant scored England's second try of the match to extend England's lead to 15-03. The England attack at this stage threatens to overpower Fiji's failing defence.
Fiji got their hands on quality attacking ball, which led to a piece of brilliance by Viliame Mata who stepped his way over England's try line to score Fiji's first try. England led 15-10 after 29 minutes of play in the first half.
Owen Farrell converted two penalties for England during the final 10 minutes of play to extend England's lead to 21-10 going into the second half.
England remained the dominant side early in the second half. They led 21-10 until Owen Farrell converted his fourth penalty to extend England's lead to 24-10 after 13 minutes of play in the second half.
Fiji started to play a more direct game, testing the England defence. Peni Ravai bulldozed his way over England's tryline following several failed attempts by Fiji. The lead of England was reduced to 24-17 and 15 minutes of play.
The on-fire Fiji attack started to tear the defence of England apart. Vilimoni Botitu cut England's defence in two and ran 35m to score Fiji's third try to level the scores at 24-24.
England attacked from the kick-off and after failing to score with several attempts, a cool Owen Farrell converted a dropgoal to put England back into the lead with 27-24 and 9 minutes left to play in the second half.
Owen Farrell converted his fifth converted penalty. A loose pass by Fiji on the attack was intercepted and ended with a penalty inside Fiji's 22m. England led 30-24 with 3 minutes still to play. Despite desperate attacks by Fiji, England's defence held to secure the win.
