Drostdy HTS Objects/Questions You Need To Ask When You Are Offered A Bursary From A School

Drostdy HTS principal objected to our remarks made in a previous video "Who Are The Schoolboy Rugby Coaches On The Move?" regarding their Director of Rugby, Sylvester Booysen's move to Eldoraigne and the reasons for his decisions.

Who Are The Schoolboy Rugby Coaches On The Move?

It was confirmed by their principal during a telephonic conversation that:
1) Booysen left after he received a better financial offer from Eldoraigne High School combined with Booysen's wishes to be closer to his parents and immediate family.
2) The conditioning coach also received a better offer from abroad and his post was not made redundant by Drostdy HTS.
3) The only boys that left Drostdy HTS rugby program since the announcement were due to disciplinary problems.

I mentioned in this programme that I do not hope this is the first shots fired in the cancellation/downgrade of Drostdy HTS's rugby programme and will leave it with that.

However, we have witnessed during the past decade, several schools having to cancel or downgrade their rugby programmes due to several factors. A new principal, governing body or motivated parents are the reason for most of these "cancellations".

Drostdy HTS Unhappy / What To Look For When Offered A Sport Bursary

Therefore, before you accept a rugby scholarship at a school ask the following questions before you agree to place your "springbok" at that school.

1) Does the school have a structured and well-planned rugby development programme?
2) Who or what is the driving force at the school behind the rugby programme?
3) Is the rugby programme an established programme?
4) Can you afford to keep your child at that school financially if/when the bursary on offer is withdrawn?
5) Is your child good/talented enough to compete at the level he will be expected to?
