Several meetings were held during this and last week to determine the road for the successful return to play for the rugby community.

News regarding the play of the Rainbow Cup, Franchise Cup, Currie Cup, Currie Cup B Division and the Varsity Cup has been leaked during the past 14 days, but still no word regarding the return of amateur and schoolboy rugby.

According to our information, SARU will announce during the next few days that amateur and schoolboy rugby may return to non-contact training on condition that all the relevant Covid19 regulations are adhered to and that will be it.

Apparently, no decisions were made regarding contact training and return of play.

Non-contact training was allowed on 15 October 2020 but was again suspended on 12 January 2021. It was decided that further decision on the return of play by amateurs and schoolboys would again be discussed on 08 February 2021.

All of the above is dependant on Covid19 statistics and forecasts. If a third wave, which is widely accepted will happen, happens we can only expect rugby to return end of June and even July for the amateurs and schoolboys. Some sources even suggest October 2021.

Al we can do is wait, wait and wait.
