DHL Western Province Looking Forward To Several Key Players’ Return

After starting their Carling Currie Cup campaign with two games on the Highveld which saw them earn seven log points, DHL Western Province is on home turf for their next two matches.

The two bonus points that DHL Western Province earned in their fight back against the Lions at Emirates Airline Park on Wednesday meant that they returned to Cape Town on top of the standings, with two matches still to be played in the second round this weekend.

Dobson said during an interview that Western Province will also be boosted in the coming weeks with a number of key players set to return.

“We have got quite a few guys coming back over the next few weeks, so that will be useful for us.

“We have got guys like JD Schickerling, Salmaan Moerat, Nama Xaba, Edwill van der Merwe, Tristan Leyds and Leolin Zas coming back over the next while, so hopefully the worst is behind us,” he said.

Head Coach John Dobson was left frustrated with some aspects of his team’s performance on Wednesday and is confident that they will be stronger in their upcoming two home games at Cape Town Stadium against the Cell C Sharks and the Tafel Lager Griquas.

“We started with two games on the Highveld four days apart and we came away with seven log points and that is probably par, even though our performances haven’t been what they should be.

“Joburg and Pretoria are two of the hardest places to go to and those are out of the way

“We have got two home games before we go into the bubble (for the British and Irish Lions match), the Cell C Sharks and Tafel Lager Griquas at home. If we can get through those and our team gets a bit stronger I think we will be relatively well-positioned in the Carling Currie Cup,” he said.

DHL Western Province will host the Cell C Sharks in their next fixture on Wednesday, June 30 at Cape Town Stadium.
