SA Rugby Director of Rugby, Rassie Erasmus hinted that the match between DHL Stormers and the British and Irish Lions might be cancelled in order for the South African squad in camp to play a second match against the B&I Lions as preparation for the upcoming test series.
Erasmus claimed that it would be a lot "safer" if they could play on Saturday against the tourists in place of the DHL Western Province. He said that the Springbok squad and B&I Lions touring group are in "hard lockdown" and playing against Western Province could possibly expose the B&I Lions to "new" possibilities of Covid infections.
No announcements were made regarding the rumours that the 2nd and 3rd tests might be moved to Cape Town.
