The DHL Stormers have a week’s break before they return to action at home against the Sale Sharks in round 3 of the Champions Cup on 11 January. Their search for a first win of the campaign is expected to be boosted by the return of three key players from injury.
Evan Roos, Sti Sithole and Leolin Zas are all expected to return from injury when the Stormers return.
However, the 24-20 win over the Hollywoodbets Sharks may have cost them the service of playmaker Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu. Mngomezulu left the field after 37 minutes of play in the first half.
Stormers Director of Rugby admitted they took a "risk" to play Mngomezulu against the Sharks.
“We took him to the edge on Friday when we decided on his hip pointer, and it was tight,” Dobson said. “And when he first went down we thought we made a calamitous decision here as coaches."
“It’s a blow for us, such a special player; three games in a row where we’ve lost him within minutes.”
“But a completely unrelated issue, it’s his clavicle (Collarbone). We were offering him to come off but he said ‘no’, he’ll keep trying, and I’m sure it was helpful for the team but we probably should’ve pulled the trigger for him to come off a bit earlier."
“He was trying to push through to half-time.”
Dobson could not put a timeline on Mngomezulu's potential return.
