DHL Stormers Job Only Half Done After Win Over Emirates Lions

DHL Stormers Director of Rugby John Dobson was pleased following his side’s win over the Emirates Lions but emphasised the importance of next week’s coastal derby clash at Cape Town Stadium.

"We’re feeling great now, and the guys will be having Christmas, but the job’s only half done. Next week, if we get those other five, then we’re back in the mix."

"It was all about getting the win, four losses and a losing changing room is tough. You start to have self-doubts."

"It was hard work, and I give the Lions credit because they fought and stuck around after the red card."

"The games we lost in the last couple of weeks we probably played a bit better. I thought our discipline put us under a bit of pressure in the second half, but it’s all about the win."

"The Lions are a tenacious side, they’re fifth or sixth on the log so it’s a good win for us.”

"That last bit felt like the old Stormers, that tenacious defensive effort. Then we finished with a bit of flair and pump."

Dobson said their increasing set-piece success is becoming an important strike weapon for his side and credited Joseph Dweba's two tries off lineout-mauls to the set-piece dominance they enjoyed against the Lions.

“We’ve gone away from our maul for a long time. Last season we struggled for a while. In the last game, we got a maul try against Toulon and today we got two maul tries, it is an important part of our culture.”
