Returning to Stellenbosch for their United Rugby Championship round two clash against the Scarlets on Saturday the DHL Stormers cruised to an easy bonus point 52-07 win.
The Stormers already led 31-07 at the halftime break, however, they could have led by a lot more was it not for the number of mistakes they made on the attack. The Stormers' dominance continued in the second half and they added three tries to secure an easy win against the visitors who were simply not good enough.
The DHL Stormers started like a house on fire and dominated early action. Marcel Theunissen scored the first two tries for the Stormers to lead 12-00 after 14 minutes of play.
The Scarlets struck back minutes later when Kieran Hardy took a quick tap-and-go and caught the Stormers sleeping. This was a great reward for the Scarlets who started to claw their way back into the match. The Stormers led 12-07.
The Stormers attacked from a lineout turnover and Paul de Wet scored the Stormers' 3rd try with great handling and interplay at speed that proved too much for the Scarlets defence.
The Stormers struck almost immediately from the kick-off when Clayton Blommetjies scored the Stormers' 4th and bonus point try to lead 24-07 after 30 minutes of play in the first half. A great movement started by Hacjivah Dayimani ended 70 meters later in a great try by Blommetjies.
The Stormers' attack proved to be too much for the Scarlets' defence with Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu cutting past several defenders and offloading to Ben Loader to score an easy try. The Stormers led 31-07 with 4 minutes still to play in the first half.
The Stormers continued their dominance in the second half, however, their scrappy play did cost them several scoring opportunities. Paul de Wet, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Courtnall Skosan scored tries in the second half to secure a 52-07 win.
