Devon Williams Is Ready To Fill The Gap Kurt-Lee Arendse Has Left

Devon Williams said at a Vodacom Bulls conference on Tuesday the absence of Kurt-Lee Arendse, who has joined Mitsubishi Dynaboars in Japan on a short-term deal, creates an opportunity for the other players in the squad.

“Kurt-Lee is a special player. He’s won a World Cup. He’s going to leave a big hole. It’s now the responsibility of the back three to step up and try and fill that hole."

"It leaves an opportunity for a younger player to make the step up."

Williams said the big challenge of Galway’ is the unpredictable weather, which often dictates matches at The Sportsground.

"We're quite an experienced squad, but not all of the guys have played in all the conditions obviously, but I think there's enough experience to guide the guys that have not experienced it yet. I think going into any game, we have enough experience to adapt to any conditions."

"We have a certain style that we want to play. But that style must leave room for changes because especially with the weather here, it is like four seasons in one and Connaught is known for rain and wind. So obviously, we must leave room to attack as well."

According to Williams, the Bulls used the November break to refocus.

“Going into the first few games we said we were going to be a bit behind because we had the whole Currie Cup campaign as well and straight from there into the URC,” Williams said.

“We used this mini-break as a mini pre-season to get us going for the rest of the year. The guys are raring to go.”
