The third match of Round 4 of the 2021 Varsity Cup will be between the Wits and CUT @ Tuks B Field. The kick-off time is 16h00.
Wits could be identified as one of the disappointments of the 2021 Varsity Cup. They are still looking for their first win after losses against Tuks (25-48), Ikeys (22-40) and Maties (13-18). Wits are currently bottom of the log with only one log point. Wits have an extremely dangerous backline that could and should win the games for them if they receive quality ball.
CUT's rise to the top of the 2021 Varsity Cup log was on the back of their dominant pack of forwards. Wins against UJ (46-13), Madibaz (51-13) and Shimlas (31-26) established them as one of the teams that has a realistic chance to win the 2021 Varsity Cup.
It should be easy to make CUT the overwhelming favourite. However, CUT started with the same 15 players in the first three rounds of the Varsity Cup. They suffered some injuries in their last game which could be vital against Wits. CUT already has shown some cracks when they brought on replacements and are known to not have sufficient depth to overcome injuries.
Wits, on the other hand, has steadily improved and with some new players included in their squad for rounds 4-6 might just surprise CUT and me. CUT should win but I won't be surprised if Wits do.
