With the 2020/21 Currie Cup something of the past, everyone anxiously awaits the announcement of the next local rugby competition. The Toyota Cheetahs started with training last week Wednesday and the vibe in the camp is good.
A total of thirty-seven players was named with Carl Wegner who is Treviso bound also included. All eyes will be on ex Stormers and Junior Springbok, flyhalf Brandon Thompson who has signed with the Cheetahs for a two-year term.
Thompson is a product of Hoërskool Ermelo and was selected to represent the Pumas at youth level, representing them at the Under-18 Craven Week in both 2012 and 2013. Thomson was also included in a South African Schools side for their annual Under-18 International Series against sides from Europe. Thompson represented Western Province at u/19 and u/21 level and was named in the squad for the 2015 World u/20 Championship.
In February 2017, Thomson joined Scottish Pro12 club Glasgow Warriors on a two-month loan deal whereafter he stayed after securing a permanent deal.
