Springbok tighthead prop Wilco Louw said during a press conference on Tuesday that expects a bruising contest between two formidable front rows when the Vodacom Bulls and Lyon clash at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.
“They’re a French Top 14 side so they’re very good in the set-pieces, a very good scrum and maul, and they have backs who can run well with the balland a few monster centres."
“They’ll want to play a typical French game, by scrumming and mauling well, so we’ll have to be up for it.”
Questioned on his Springbok chances and dreams Louw said: “It’s every player’s dream to play for your country."
“It is important to play well for your franchise and be consistent every week. If you focus on that at the right time, a call-up will happen."
“But for now I want to play good rugby for the Bulls and it will always be a big dream to play for the Springboks again.”
Louw said he is enjoying his rugby at the Vodacom Bulls.
“It is really nice to be back in South Africa. I enjoyed my time overseas at the Harlequins,” Louw said.
“But there was an opportunity at the Bulls and it is exciting to be at the franchise."
“For me personally, I enjoy the rugby, the URC is a good tournament, it is very competitive, and I really enjoy playing for the Vodacom Bulls"
“A few years ago when South Africa just joined the URC, Steven Kitshoff said it’s the closest you can come to Test rugby and I think it’s true.
“Last weekend you played against Leinster, a well-coached team that excels in almost every facet of the game, good scrum, good maul, their backs can run. The next weekend we face Lyon. They play good rugby with a big pack and it is very competitive in the Top 14."
