The Suzuki Griquas started like a house on fire, however, they had to fight the whole eighty minutes to beat DHL Western Province 37-29.
The Griquas dominated the first twenty minutes of the match, adding a converted penalty and a try by Dylan Maart to the scorecard to the penalty by Jurie Mathee to lead 10-03.
Griquas continued to dominate, and when Dylan Sjoblom bulldozed his way over the tryline to extend the host's lead to 17-03, they seemed to be well on their way to yet another win over Western Province.
However, a yellow card shown to the host saw Western Province up their tempo on the attack and tries by Marcel Theunissen and Dan du Plessis within two minutes cut the hosts' lead to 20-15, which was also the halftime score.
The Western Province continued to dominate, and after thirteen minutes of play, captain Dan du Plessis cruised past the halfhearted defence of the Griquas. Western Province took the lead for the first time in the match with 22-20.
Six minutes later, Griquas' captain, Marco de Witt, crossed the whitewash with a storming run to score the hosts' third try of the match and reclaim the lead.
With twelve minutes to play, the combination of Jurie Matthee and Damian Markus saw Markus taking a brilliant soft pass from Matthee to score Western Province's fourth and bonus-point try to lead 29-27.
With two minutes to go Griquas attacked from within their own 22m and Bobby Alexander ended off a hundred-meter try to beat the DHL Western Province 37-29.
