The Fidelity ADT Lions laid the foundation for their 38-21 bonus-point win over the Toyota Cheetahs in the first thirty minutes of the match, scoring four tries to lead 26-00.
The Lions opened the scoring after six minutes when Renzo du Plessis scored off the back of a five-meter lineout-maul. The Lions scored three more tries by RF Schoeman, Jaco Visagie and Rabz Maxwane to secure the bonus point for four tries scored and led 26-00 after thirty minutes of play.
The Cheetahs eventually got their hand on quality attacking ball, and following wave after wave of attacks on the Lions' tryline, Corne Fourie bulldozed his way over the tryline to cut the visitors' lead to 26-07 at the halftime break.
The second started at a mad pace with both teams showing willingness to run from anywhere. The Cheetahs' Daniel Kasende stormed past two Lions' defenders to score the Cheetahs second try. Ten minutes later Renzo du Plessis scored his second of the day and after fifty-seven minutes Vernon Paulo's try gave the Cheetahs the edge on the scoreboard for the second half. The Lions still led 31-21 at that stage.
With five minutes to play the Cheetahs stood guard for Kade Wolhuter, making sure nobody tackled him. Wolhuter scored the Lions' sixth try sealing a 38-21 bonus-point win.
