Helpmekaar host EG Jansen in a VirSeker Beker competition match on Saturday @12h15. Helpmekaar was only promoted to the VirSeker Cup competition in 2018 after dominating the Big Schools Division for years.
2020 - Did not play
2019 - Helpmekaar 48-33 EG Jansen
2018 - Helpmekaar 29-10 EG Jansen
2017 - Did not play
2016 - Did not play
What to expect from Helpmekaar.
Helpmekaar has a horrible start to the 2021 season losing all four of their matches. They lost against Stellenberg (12-34), Outeniqua (12-41), Paarl Gim (05-52) and lost last weekend in quite a surprising manner to Marais Viljoen (31-32) in round 1 of the VirSeker Cup competition.
Helpmekaar was leading 31-22 with only a few minutes left on the clock against Marais Viljoen. A try and penalty later saw a jubilant Marais Viljoen causing one of the "surprises" of the season.
Helpmekaar showed a never say die attitude at the Monnas and Noord/Suid festival late in April this year. Their attacking play with forwards and backs combining brilliantly is always a pleasure to watch.
What to expect from EG Jansen
EG Jansen has won three of the four games they played during the 2021 season. They had wins against Ben Vorster (31-15), Welkom Gim (38-07) and Noordheuwel (26-03) with one loss against Grey College (14-43) at the Noord/Suid Festival
EG Jansen is known for its hard and uncompromising type of rugby. This year they have a big pack of forwards and some great backs that can cause havoc on the attack.
A lot has been said regarding the number of u/19 players at EG Jansen, however, they are allowed to play in the VirSeker Competition and must be accepted as such.
Prediction:
Expect Helpmekaar to speed up the game to keep the ball away from the heavier EG Jansen pack and attack from anywhere on the field. However, EG Jansen has proven this year that they will be difficult to beat in the VirSeker Cup competition and should win against a Helpmekaar team that will fight until the end.
