Blitzboks Secure Place In Quarter-final With Smash And Grab Win Over France

 

The Blitzboks secured their place in the Cup Quarter Final on Sunday, beating Olympic Champions France 24-19 with a try in extra time. The Blitzboks will play New Zealand at 09:10 (SA Time) on Sunday morning.

The Blitzboks scored two quick tries by Christie Grobbelaar and Ricardo Duartee to lead 12-00 after five minutes of play. However, France scored a late try by Gregoire Arfeuil to cut the Blitzboks lead to 12-05 at the halftime break.

France scored two early tries in the second half to lead 19-12 after four minutes of play in the second half. A late try by Christie Grobbelaar and conversion by Dewald Human after time was up on the clock secured extra time.

France attacked from the start of the "third" period however the Blitzboks attacked from within their own half to send Donovan Don over for the Blitzboks' fourth try which secured a 24-19 win.
