Blitzboks Overcome Physical Challenge From Fiji To Set Up Final With All Blacks

 

The Blitzboks laid the foundation for a great 31-12 win against Fiji in the HSBC Sydney Sevens' semi-finals in a brilliant first half when they scored three unanswered tries.

The Blitzboks will face New Zealand at 11:26, who they beat 17-14 in a Pool B match on Saturday.

Fiji's physical onslaught was met by a Blitzboks team that was willing and able for a bar fight. Unfortunately, the Blitzboks paid the price with several players leaving the pitch with injuries.

Brilliant hands by Ricardo Duarttee put Shilton van Wyk, who ran a brilliant line in a gap to score the Blitzboks' first try. With 50 seconds to play, Dalvin Blood scored the Blitzboks' second try in the corner beating the defenders from Fiji with blistering speed. Jaiden Baron scored the Blitzboks' third try after the Blitzboks took a quick tap from a penalty inside the 22m of Fiji. The Blitzboks led 17-00 going into the second half.

Fiji was rewarded for their continued second-half onslaught when they scored in the corner with 4 minutes to go. A brilliant individual effort from Darren Adonis sealed the match for the Blitzboks. Adonis kicked a loose ball ahead after which he won the foot race to score the Blitzboks' 4th try.

Shilton van Wyk intercepted a loose pass from Fiji to score a 5th try for the Blitzboks. With time up on the clock Fiji scored a consolation try with the Blitzboks beating fiji 31-12.
