Blitzboks Lose To Samoa In Semi-Final

 

The Blitzboks could not secure their place in the 2022 HSBC Cape Town Sevens after losing 10-07 to Samoa in extra time. The Blitzboks will face the USA in the bronze medal playoff at 18:59 tonight after New Zealand outplayed the USA in the other semi-final 33-17.

An early yellow card to the Blitzboks led to an easy first try to Samoa after three minutes of play. Samoa started this match putting early pressure on the Blitzboks, however, the Blitzboks absorbed the pressure and were unlucky to not level the score before the halftime break. Samoa led 07-00 at the halftime break.

The second half started in the same manner as the first when Samoa was shown an early yellow card. Ryan Oosthuizen took a quick penalty tap and burst through a tackle to level the scores at 07-07 and one and a half minutes to play. No points were added during the normal time which led to extra time with the first team to score during extra time will be advancing to the final.

A penalty was awarded to Samoa which was converted, handing them a place in the final against New Zealand at 19:56 tonight.
