The British & Irish Lions faced the DHL Stormers at the Cape Town Stadium in their last match before facing the Springboks for the first tour test match on 24 July 2021. The B&I Lions continued their dominance over the local franchises with their 49-03 win against DHL Stormers.
The Stormers had a great start in the match but during the last 10 minutes of the first half, they visibly tired as the Lions stepped up the pace. The Lions deservedly led 21-03 at halftime.
The Stormers enjoyed territorial advantage for most of the second half, however, when the Lions attacked they did so with clinical efficiency and scored almost at will when they did attack. The Lions scored seven tries in this match for an easy win.
19:53 Tim Swiel converted a penalty to give the Stormers the lead, (03-00).
20:00 The first twenty minutes must be given to the Stormers as they dominated possession as well as territory. The match still balanced on a knife's edge with the momentum maybe just in the favour of the Stormers.
27:43 Adam Beard scored the first try for the B&I Lions as the Lions are gaining momentum. Great handling by the Lions opening up the holes in the defence of the Stormers, (03-07).
33:36 The B&I Lions score their second try after Luke Cowan-Dickie went over after a 5m line-out maul. Cowan-Dickie broke away at just the right time with no defenders in front of him, (03-14).
40:40 Jonny Hill scored the B&I Lions 3rd try after the hooter sounded, (03-21).
40:00 The Stormers did well in the first 30 minutes of the game. Unfortunately, the B&I Lions started to up the pace, while the Stormers started to tire visibly. The Lions became clinical on the attack as the gaps started to appear in the Stormers defence during the last 10 minutes of the match.
50:19 Wonderful handling by the Lions saw Jack Conan going over for their 4th try, (28-03).
60:00 The Stormers enjoyed territorial advantage for most of the match, however, when the Lions attacked they did so with clinical efficiency and scored almost at will when they did attack.
68:01 Zander Fagerson goes over for the Lions 5th try. The Lions are now in complete control with the holes in the Stormers defence wide open gaps, (03-35).
73:40 Louis Rees-Zammit scored the Lions 6th try after Marcus Smith took a quick penalty tap in his own 22m, and passed to Rees-Zammit for an easy try, (03-42).
77:20 Sam Simmonds in for the Lions 7th try, (03-49).
