Autumn Series – All Blacks Edge England In Last Gasp Win

 

The All Blacks secured a 24-22 win against England with three minutes still to play with Mark Tele’a's second try of the test.

England started like a house on fire and opened the scoring with a forty-five-meter converted penalty by flyhalf Marcus Smith. The All Blacks upped their attack and scored the first try of the match when winger Mark Tele’a was put in space out wide with brilliant quick hands. Tele’a had only prop Ellis Genge to beat, which he did with ease. After ten minutes of play in the first half, the All Blacks led 10-03.

Three minutes later, Marcus Smith converted a second penalty for England.

The All Blacks threatened for the following ten minutes and tested England's defence on several occasions. Will Jordan ran a brilliant but simple line to cut England's defence in two and scored a try from thirty meters out to extend the All Blacks lead to 14-06 and twelve minutes to play.

Marcus Smith added another two converted penalties for England to cut the All Blacks' lead to 14-12 at the halftime break.

The All Blacks were on the attack when Marcus Smith intercepted in England's half, and eventually led to winger Immanuel Feyi-Waboso's try for England to retake the lead 19-14 after just four minutes of play in the second half.

A "try" by the All Blacks was denied due to a deliberate knockdown which Marcus Smith converted the penalty from the deliberate knockdown to extend England's lead to 22-14 at twenty minutes still to play.

Six minutes later Damian McKenzie converted a penalty for the All Blacks to cut England's lead to 22-17.

During the final ten minutes, the All Blacks threw everything at England and when Mark Tele’a scored his second try to put the All Blacks in the lead with 24-22 and three minutes to play.

The final three minutes were full of drama and action, however, a missed attempt to convert a penalty followed by a missed drop goal by George Ford after time was already up on the clock sealed England's fate. The All Blacks won 24-22
