The Central Union saw some teams confirming their no1 status and some losing their status as no1 or their hope thereof. The much-talked match between Grey College and Boishaai was the match to determine who will be no1 in South Africa and after a complete performance, Boishaai dismissed the claim Grey College had. Vrede is still continuing on their winning streak and Louis Botha surprising Fichardt Park in the battle for no2 in Bloemfontein.

Diamantveld was on their way to win the match against Noord Kaap when two yellow cards saw them reduced to thirteen men. Noord Kaap used this opportunity and scored two tries in the period of absence and was level with 14 all at the halftime break. After the break, Diamantveld received a further yellow card losing eventually 19-26. A day of sin that cost Diamantveld the match.

In the Griffons League, one team has an X marked on their back. Welkom Gimnasium became the only unbeaten side in the league after convincingly beating Voortrekker Bethlehem with the ever performing fullback Andrew Kota contributing most of Welkom Gim's points with two tries and four conversions. With Voortrekker losing their first match this season and Witteberg losing against Rooiskool, Kroonstad AHS Welkom Gim must be the favourite to win this league to set up a final against Grey for the Kovsies crown.

The much talked about match between Grey and Boishaai was discussed and dissected by anybody who knows something about rugby and those who does not. Just one last thought - this defeat against Boishaai does not make Grey nor their players bad nor hopeless.
