In the second match in Round 3 of the 2021 Varsity Cup Competition, the Madibaz face UWC at the TUKS Stadium @ 15h00. Although Madibaz, as well as UWC, are still looking for their first win, both teams have shown that they are quickly developing into worthwhile contenders in the Varsity Cup. UWC must be the favourites but do not discard the Madibaz.
Both teams play some exciting student rugby their lack of depth has costed them against some of the title contenders in the 2021 Varsity Cup. However, Andre Tredoux (Madibaz) and Paul Treu (UWC) are doing sterling work in their first year at the two universities.
In one of the "upsets" this year UWC drew with Shimlas in round one (28-28) but came up short against the Maties (43-21) on Thursday.
Only Tasriq Mynhardt survived the cut at the back while up front Godfrey Muzanargwo, Tinotenda Mavesere, Pieter-Steyl Swanepoel and Justin Theys are the new faces. Pieter-Steyl Swanepoel takes over the captaincy from Jason Alexnder.
The Madibaz lost their Round 1 match against the NWU Eagles with 28-47 and in the second round against the powerful CUT 51-13.
At the back, Tiaan Schutte moves to the inside centre from flyhalf with Chadwyn November and Gavin Mills the new halfbacks. Up front Laken Gray replaces Dylan Halgreen at lock.
