The Vodacom Bulls have secured the services of promising lock Reinhardt Ludwig, announcing that the 23-year-old has signed a contract extension that will keep him at Loftus Versfeld until 2028.
The extension confirms Ludwig as a key component of the Bulls’ long-term strategy, marking him as the 12th player to commit their future to the franchise in recent weeks.
Ludwig, who represented the SA U20 team in 2023, has rapidly transitioned into a senior player, drawing significant praise for both his high standard of play and his leadership potential. He captained the team during a stretch of the Vodacom United Rugby Championship campaign, underlining the faith the union has in his ability to lead the team.
Expressing his delight at the commitment, Ludwig emphasised his deep connection to the club and the city.
“I am extremely grateful to be part of the Vodacom Bulls for the next few seasons,” Ludwig said. “The Bulls have only been good to me the last five years. The whole environment challenges you to become the best version of yourself. I can’t wait to see where this team will go over the next few seasons. Pretoria is my home, and I absolutely love this city.”
Bulls CEO Edgar Rathbone endorsed the contract extension, highlighting Ludwig’s impact both on and off the field.
“Retaining a player of Reinhardt’s calibre is massive for us,” Rathbone stated. “He embodies the spirit of the Bulls, showcasing incredible work rate and maturity that belies his age. His recent stint as captain was a testament to his leadership qualities. He is a local product who has bought into our vision, and his long-term commitment is a huge signal of intent for where we are taking this squad.”
