The third and final day of the 2023 Standard Bank Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival takes place tomorrow (Monday 10). Day two on Saturday was a particularly good day for KwaZulu-Natal, with all four schools bagging wins after an indifferent start to the festival; with the excellent turnout of spectators being entertained by some exciting play in warm autumn weather.
Three teams go into the final day on Monday unbeaten – Hoërskool Monument, Glenwood and Westville Boys High.
After the primary school match between Westville Senior Primary and Hillcrest Primary, the high school matches are scheduled to begin at 09h00.
Worcester Gimnasium will face another tough encounter, this time against Glenwood in the opening fixture of day three. Glenwood’s victory over Dale College on Saturday kept alive their hopes of claiming three wins from three ahead of the final day.
Having won their match against Worcester on the second day of the festival, Marlow tackle Durban High School (10h20), who had an unexpected loss to Worcester on the first day.
HoërskoolMonument move into the third day unbeaten, having battered Hoerskool Noord-Kaapon Saturday. Monnasface Dale College (11h40) who beat hosts Kearsney at the death on the first day, and lost to Glenwood on the second.
HoërskoolDr EG Jansen will look to get back to winning ways against Westville in game four at 13:00. The former drew with the touring Hartpury College on day one and lost to Kearsney on Saturday. Westville has had a good festival, beating HoërskoolNoord-Kaap and Hartpury College.
In the penultimate game of the festival, Hoërskool Framesby clash with Noord-Kaap at 14h20. This should be a great game, with both teams being intent on going home with a victory.
Traditionally hosts Kearsney College play the final game of the festival. They rebounded from their disappointing defeat by Dale College on the first day to beat Dr EG Jansen in a riveting performance on Saturday. They will be looking for more of the same when they face Hartpury College, still in search of their first win after having drawn their initial fixture against EG Jansen. The game will kick off at 15h40.
