The second play day of the 2023 edition of the Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival (KERF) gets underway tomorrow (Saturday) and promises further exciting games after some absolute crackers on the first day, with a number of matches being won at the death and some sparkling action on show throughout the day.
Day two starts at 09h00 with Westville Boys’ High out to claim their second festival win, against the touring Hartpury College from Gloucestershire, who drew 28-all with HoërskoolDr EG Jansen in a tense tussle which could have gone either way.
Worcester Gimnasium take on the spirited HoërLandbouskoolMarlow from Cradock at 10h20. Festival debutants Worcester’s first encounter was a seesaw battle of counter-attacking footy against Durban High School (DHS), ending with the former scoring the winner with less than a minute left, to steal a narrow 36-31 result over their much-fancied opponents.Marlow will be looking for a win, after their 10-22 loss to Glenwood High School.
At 11h40, Glenwood tackle Dale College, who stormed back from 15-points down on day one, with a last-gasp penalty that saw the resurgent Eastern Cape boys home 23-20 in a thriller of a first game against Kearsney College.
The 13h00 lunchtime game sees home side Kearsney take on EG Jansen, with both sides hoping to bag their first victories. The Boksburg boys will have taken some confidence from their fantastic lung-buster against the touring team, which could have gone either way on Thursday.
In the penultimate match HoërskoolFramesbyface DHS at 14h20. The Eastern Cape boys will be keen to redeem their 7-28 loss to Hoërskool Monument, who, in the final game of the second day, will do battle with Hoërskool Noord-Kaap at 15h40. The latter were seen off by Westville 31-19 on day one.
Gate entrance is R30 per person with ample secure parking. Food and refreshment outlets, a coffee shop, beer tent and KidZone ensure a full day of entertainment for the whole family.
