2016 Ruggas Forward Of The Year – Muller Uys

Muller Uys was one of the best forwards in South African schoolboy rugby. And if any doubt still existed our readers confirmed his status as the best forward for 2016. This category was one contested by four loosies and one lock and the message was clear, we still value the player that is good with the ball in hand but insist that he is as hard as nails and enjoys to be part of the tuff stuff up front.

8th man Muller Uys was undoubtedly the leader of the pack and the key man in the forwards at Paarl Gim. Ask any supporter of, and especially a player of Boland Landbou's 1stXV what face they see when having a nightmare. Muller Uys was the one player that took Paarl Gim on several attacks via telling drives.

Muller Uys was the one player that took Paarl Gim on several attacks via telling drives. Turning defence into attack on a regular basis. Then the time came for that moment of sheer brilliance which so often determines the outcome of a match.  Picking up the ball fifteen metres inside his half on cover defence, Muller du Plessis took off on a scintillating run straight through the heart of a bemused Landbou defence,  outpacing all would-be tacklers to dot down near the posts.  Boshoff’s conversion finally put daylight between the sides. (Paarl Gym 22 Boland Landbou 9 – 50 minutes).

This roll Muller also played for the u/18 Craven Week team this year. Chosen as no 7 for the Western Province team caused a bit of an upset but Muller showed his class in adapting to this role without it having any impact on his level of play. Although this Western Province team had several outstanding players, Muller's influence on attack and defence can not be denied and was singled out as one of the major reason the Western Province side was unbeaten.

Also chosen as no 7 for the SA Schools side for the U/19 International Series, Muller simply continued his excellent form. Acknowledging this fantastic player's form and commitment Muller was one of a few players chosen for all three matches during this series.

Position : 8th man, but also excels at no 7.
