Boishaai has been the leading school in schoolboy rugby for the past two years. Their 1stXV being rated as no1 is only half the reason. All their teams are constantly under the top 10 in the country and more important for the 1stXV, their seccies is also unbeaten for the past two years.

This is due to the fact that everything that happens at Boishaai is planned in advance. The coaching staff consist of Sean Erasmus, Elmo Wolfaardt and David Sadie, conditioning coach Ryno Rust,  physio Anzel Brink, team doctor Kobus Uys, running coach Tania Malherbe and kicking coach Conrad Barnard. All of them are passionate about the team.

Add to the recipe some of the best talent in South Africa. Eight boys represented South Africa in the u/19 International Series, a new SA record. They are Reece Bezuidenhout (prop), Johan Neethling (prop), Daniel Jooste (hooker), Salmaan Moerat (lock), Charl Serdyn (flank), Khanya Ncusane (No 8/flank), Manuel Rass (centre) and Gianni Lombard (fullback).

Then the decision was made to invest time in the players’ lives on and off the field. Discipline and having a sound team ethos, which the players value, was vital. The coaching staff believed that in teaching boys about faith and the good values of life, manners and being humble, improves the person and hard work helped them to reach their goals.

All the above combined with a believe in themselves to pull off victories when the opposition already started to celebrate saw close games against Affies, Paarl Gim, Outeniqua and Boland Landbou ending in victories. Games were won due to excellent play and great team work, but the belief in their ability to win carried them those last few minutes to victory.

So to summarise the reason for their success. Committed coaching staff,  talented and happy players and a supportive community. With all of this already in place for 2017, we can not wait to see what the opposition will bring in order to topple the 1stXV of Boishaai as the country's best.
