The Noordvaal Was Cold And Wet – Week Ending 14 May 2017

The Noordvaal weekend was a wet and cold one as in almost the rest of the country. In this region the schools are divided into two camps, one camp play in the various leagues under the VirSeker competition formerly known as the Beeld Trophy and the rest play friendless refusing to be part of the VirSeker setup.

The VirSeker Cup needs some serious rethinking as big scores are in the order of the day as this competition does not take into account the changes that occurred at most schools. Scores like Barberton 104-0 Sybrand van Niekerk, Curro Roodeplaat 101-0 Cornerstone, Curro Nelspruit 0-46 Penryn and Eric Louw 56-0 Capricorn not only has no sense but also degrades the idea of a winner if the competition is not of value.

The VirSeker macro competition did provide one big upset when Centurion won 30-3 against Eldoraigne especially after Centurion started playing in the Pukke series citing the TUKS competition as too strong. In Middelburg Middelburg HTS, had a difficult match against Middelburg Hoër only winning 10-5. But sometimes the scoreboard does lie and Middelburg HTS was "unlucky" not scoring more but the youthful Middelburg Hoër, 11 grade 11's put up a serious fight in defence. The rest as said before more or less as expected.

Affies this time not saved by the whistle but definitely at that stage saved by nature. A severe lightning storm ended play when KES was 16-7 ahead with an Affies team coming into the game. Who would have won? Waterkloof was unlucky according to many to lose this intergala at Monnas but if you do not use your chances you can cry as much as you want and the scoreboard will not change. Monnas winning 20-17 in a very close and wet match.

Jeppe continuing their roller coaster ride this time reaching a low losing against St Benedict's 30-36. One can not understand if you compare their performance against Monnas the Monday evening and then losing to Bennies. St Stithians fended off an early onslaught against Pretoria Boys Hign before easily winning 28-15.
