The 2020 Super Rugby nightmare continued for the Emirates Lions when they were humiliated in Auckland against the Blues. The first 20 minutes they were still in the game but thereafter .............. Oh yes, the final score was 43-10 with the Blues the winner.
The first quarter of the match was a very physical affair with the Lions in the lead with 7-5 after a try by each team. At this stage, it was a very even match but the forwards of the Blues seemingly slowly taking control.
The Blues created more of the opportunities as the half continued, if not for a couple of passing errors they may have been further in front at the break. A key call before the break was a yellow card for the Lions and a penalty-try for the Blues, well picked up by the referee with the pass from Nock being tipped forward and away from Parsons who was about to receive the ball and go over the line. Telea has been the standout in the first half for me, every time he has the ball he is creating headaches for the Lions. The Blues lead deservedly 22-10 at half time.
The first quarter of the second half was just the Blues with a flickering of the Emirate Lions here and there. The Blues lead 36-10 after sixty minutes of the game and were in complete control.
The Blues outclassed the Lions in a clinical dispaly running out comfortable winners 43-10. Rieko Ioane with two tries for the Blues who had a host of standout performers including Faiane, Black, Parsons, Telea among a host of others. The Lions tried hard and trailed by 22-10 at half time before being blown off the park by the Blues 43-10.
