The annual Wildeklawer Tournament takes place on Saturday, 30 April 2016 and Monday, 02 May 2016 at Diamamntveld High School in Kimberley. A 20 team line-up was announced with Glenwood missing, due to their SANIX commitments, and Stellenberg and Garsfontein entering the scene.
08h00 Saturday 30 April 2016 - EG Jansen vs Louis Botha
EG Jansen is still to play this weekend in the Tuks Super Series semi final against Nelspruit. After their loss against Glenwood at the Kearsney Rugby Fesival they are improving with each game and is definitely a contender to win the Tuks Super Series for a third year in a row. They will be playing against a Louis Botha who's season so far is without any major victories, playing 9 losing 5 and drawing 1.
09h10 Saturday 30 April 2016 - Wildeklawer SARU XV vs Oakdale
Oakdale who is undefeated after 9 matches this season should not experience any difficulties in winning this one. Invitational sides is seldom a success stories and to match them against a side like Oakdale is begging for a disaster, which is unfortunately not beneficial to either team.
10h20 Saturday 30 April 2016 - Stellenberg vs Noord Kaap
Stellenberg who is still undefeated this season, but admittingly not being tested apart from Kempton Park face Noord Kaap, who is never a easy opponent in Kimberley, who's season up to now is very disappointing. They also played Kempton Park and if this comparison is anything to go by, Stellenberg should be able to win this one without sweating to much.
11h30 Saturday 30 April 2016 - Monnas vs Selborne
Selborne's only loss was last weekend, 16 Apr 2016, against Queen's. However they will face an improving Monnas team who demolished Rustenburg, 46 -12, in their quarter final of the Tuks Super Series with a season's best performance. First time this season their forwards performed up to the level expected giving their awesome centre pairing of Pelser and Potgieter the freedom to cut Rustenburg to pieces. This weekend they must still play Garsies, in Tuks Super Series semi final, but Selborne can expect the Witbulle to be on a high and in an unforgiving mood.
12h40 Saturday 30 April 2016 - Middelburg HTS vs Paul Roos
The first proper match up for day 1 and a cracker it will be. Both teams are having a sub standard season to their high standards BUT no team in the top 10 can ever under estimate them. Paul Roos just loosing against Affies at st Johns having outclassed Affies for a good 50 minutes of the game. Their second loss was against Paarl Gim last weekend, 16 April, in a close encounter going down 28 -24. Middelburg HTS just losing to EG Jansen 21-24 in the quarter finals of the TUKS Super Series. But we all know Middelburg's Rooibulle never gives up and will test you until the last seconds of a game. Expect a pulsating game with Paul Roos maybe just able to edge out Middelburg HTS with a narrow victory,
13h50 Saturday 30 April 2016 - Menlo Park vs Paarl Gim
A Paarl Gim team on a high after beating Boland Landbou and Paul Roos in consecutive week ends awaits a Menlo Park who is not having the best of seasons. Expect Paarl Gim to dominate this fixture with their big forwards and exciting backs . They however must not underestimate the Pretoria team and if they can not dominate up front they will be in for a long afternoon. Paarl Gim's only loss, against Garsfontein, was when their forwards did not dominate and allowed Garsfontein to run them off their feet. I would not put Menlo Park's backline in the same category as Garsie's backline but do not understimate them.
15h00 Saturday 30 April 2016 - Waterkloof vs Paarl Boishaai
Waterkloof is struggling to reach the same heights as 3 - 5 years ago and their season this far mirrors exactly that. Three losses against Paarl Gim, Outeniqua and Jeppe would not install any confidence going into this encounter. Boishaai on the other hand is still undefeated, but we must also admit the teams played this year not exactly top 10 material. Their narrow victory against Outeniqua showed that this year's team is not unbeatable, but also showed that they will fight to the end and losing is not an option. Will Waterkloof end their winning streak, I doubt it.
16h10 Saturday 30 April 2016 - Garsfontein vs Grey College
An untested Grey with their only noticeable victory that against Maritzburg College with 60 - 13. Garsfontein will however know not to under estimate their opponents and the know to expect the worst. Garsies will be arriving for the first time at Wildeklawer, on either a high having beaten Monnas in the semi final of the Tuks Super Series or confident with both Bees Ferreira and Embrose Papier joining them in this epic battle. Thus Grey will meet a Garsies side full of excitement with forwards able to provide their dangerous backs with enough ammunition to tear any side apart.
17h20 Saturday 30 April 2016 - Affies vs Outeniqua
Any team losing in the final moments to the Boishaai team is not to be dismissed. Having lost both of their "big" games by a small margin one can not help wondering when the ball will bounce right for them. Affies on the other hand has won all of their games convincingly. That is what the score board tell us but Affies is expecting to run all teams ragged by their more than able backs and forwards. Although Outeniqua lack the forwards to contain Affies it must be noted that Diamantveld had the better of Affies in the scrums. If it was not for the hard work, of my man of the match Regardt du Plessis and his partner at 7, in the loose the game could have been a lot closer. Add to that the backline's inability to make first time tackles Outeniqua could surprise us all. However a Affies team using their forwards to provide opportunities to their backline will be very difficult to contain.
18h30 Saturday 30 April 2016 - Diamantveld vs Boland Landbou
A urgent message to Boland landbou. This Diamantveld team is not as bad as the score reflects against Affies. Their forwards had the better of Affies in the scrums. Affies scored three or four tries due to the bounce of the ball and against play. Diamantveld at home is going to be very hard to beat. Jaco Dames is busy moulding this team in a very competitive unit and if you do not contain their forwards they have the backs to win the game. Boland's forwards will have to bring their A game otherwise they will loose their second game of the season.
